Job Summary
Reporting to the Data Centre Manager, the Assistant Data Centre Manager is responsible for the joint day-to-day management of the site. The scope includes data centre management, customer implementations, operational continuity, reporting, billing, and managing third-party contractors.
Main Duties
- Technical Resource
- Supporting the Data Centre Manager in daily operations and customer requirements.
- Managing customer requirements, site tours, drawings, pricing, and implementations.
- Assisting in operational financial budgeting, including managing budgets and identifying cost savings.
- Handling site procurement, managing costs, suppliers, and timely delivery.
- Capacity management including power, space, and load forecasting.
- Witnessing data centre scenario testing, logging issues, and lessons learned.
- Monitoring site efficiencies, reducing PUE and power costs.
- Managing internal cabling and recording updates.
- Delivering customer projects within time and budget.
- Managing equipment lifecycle, budgeting, feasibility, spares, and risk reduction.
Site Availability
- Maintaining zero customer downtime, meeting SLAs and KPIs.
- Working with Service Management Centre on tickets, change control, and customer communications.
- Escalating and managing issues affecting customers.
Campus Consistency
- Supporting data centre alignment across VIRTUS portfolio.
Third Party Monitoring
- Ensuring adherence to policies and operational processes by staff, customers, and contractors.
- Managing third-party maintenance contractors to high standards.
Planned Preventative Maintenance
- Ensuring PPMs are completed on time and faults are tracked to resolution.
- Tracking KPIs related to maintenance performance.
Reporting
- Assisting with monthly reports on power usage, PUE, capacity, and other metrics.
- Providing quality updates for daily calls and attending review meetings.
General Responsibilities
- Collaborating with key stakeholders and ensuring a safe working environment.
- Maintaining cleanliness and visual standards of the data centre.
- Performing other reasonable duties as assigned.
Person Specification
Experience (Essential)
- Experience in similar facilities management or contract support roles.
- Experience managing in operational, business-critical environments.
- Managing third-party suppliers and teams to meet SLAs.
- Knowledge of business continuity, risk, incident, and change management.
Experience (Desirable)
- Experience within data centre management organizations.
- Familiarity with BMS, PMS, and CMMS systems.
- Ability to produce and amend AutoCAD drawings.
Knowledge
- Understanding of Health & Safety, ISO standards, and compliance.
- Experience with CAFM systems for ticket logging.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
