Job summary

Amey is seeking an Assistant Building Surveyor to join the Advisory team in the UK. You will support experienced surveyors in delivering surveys, reports, specifications and project documentation while contributing to projects meeting quality, cost and programme objectives.

You will assist with building surveys, condition surveys, measured surveys and asset inspections, and help with remedial works specifications under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Building Surveying or related field.
  • Working toward professional membership (RICS, CIOB or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of surveying theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of technical and specification processes in surveying.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Awareness of CDM Regulations and risk assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering surveying commissions to meet standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications and project documentation.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Carry out building, condition, measured surveys and asset inspections.
  • Support defect diagnosis and remedial work specifications.
  • Assist in identifying project hazards and risks.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards including CDM.
  • Support delivery within budgets and schedules.
  • Visit sites and conduct surveys as required.

The Role

As an Assistant Surveyor, you will work under the guidance of experienced surveying professionals, supporting the delivery of technically sound surveying solutions across a variety of projects. You will assist with the preparation of surveys, reports, specifications and project documentation while contributing to the successful delivery of projects that meet quality, cost and programme objectives.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Assist in the delivery of surveying commissions, ensuring compliance with technical standards and client requirements.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports, specifications, drawings, schedules and project documentation.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Assist with building surveys, condition surveys, measured surveys and asset inspections.
  • Support defect diagnosis activities and the preparation of remedial work specifications.
  • Develop an understanding of technical and specification processes and take ownership of deliverables with appropriate supervision.
  • Assist in identifying and managing project hazards and risks.
  • Support compliance with health, safety and welfare requirements, including CDM Regulations.
  • Contribute to project delivery while meeting agreed budgets and programme deadlines.
  • Build positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Undertake site visits and surveys, including temporary site-based assignments where required.
  • Support continuous improvement by following established business processes and procedures.
  • Carry out general office duties associated with the successful operation of a consulting business.
What You Will Bring To Us
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Working towards or committed to achieving professional membership of a relevant institution such as RICS, CIOB or equivalent.
  • Understanding of surveying theory and principles with the ability to apply them in practice.
  • Knowledge of technical and specification processes within a surveying environment.
  • Good competence with relevant software packages and analytical tools.
  • Understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and risk assessment principles.
  • Understanding of Building Regulations and other relevant legislation.
  • Awareness of commercial considerations associated with project delivery.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present ideas and information clearly.
  • Knowledge of suppliers and the services they provide within the property and construction sectors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Commitment to professional development and progression towards Chartered status.
Desirable
  • Experience undertaking condition surveys, measured surveys and other building surveying activities.
  • Exposure to defect diagnosis and the preparation of specifications for remedial works.
  • Experience of Contract Administration and project delivery.
  • Experience working within a consultancy environment.
  • Experience within Public Sector, Commercial, Defence, Justice, Education, Highways or Rail projects.
  • Knowledge of Party Wall matters and dilapidations.
  • Experience using industry-standard surveying software and digital survey tools.
