Job summary

Amey is seeking an Assistant Building Services Engineer (Electrical) to join our Advisory team in the UK. You will support experienced engineers in delivering electrical building services designs across sectors, preparing calculations, drawings and documentation to meet quality, cost and programme targets.

You will contribute to scheme deliverables, participate in site visits, and collaborate with clients, contractors and suppliers while progressing toward professional registration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or equivalent in Electrical/Building Services.
  • Understanding of electrical engineering theory and principles.
  • Knowledge of electrical building services systems (power, lighting).
  • Understanding of design and specification processes.
  • Good competence with engineering software packages and analytical tools.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit and BIM.
  • Awareness of commercial considerations in project delivery.
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations and risk assessment principles.
  • Good communication skills to present technical information clearly.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Understanding interfaces between engineering disciplines.
  • Strong organisational skills and prioritisation abilities.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development towards registration.

Responsibilities

  • Produce electrical building services designs in line with client requirements and standards.
  • Prepare calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and project documentation.
  • Design and coordinate electrical building services systems (power, lighting, alarms, security).
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to achieve project outcomes.
  • Develop practical, compliant technical solutions.
  • Produce scheme deliverables meeting quality, time and budget objectives.
  • Participate in site visits, surveys and inspections.
  • Identify, communicate and manage project risks and hazards.
  • Ensure health, safety and CDM compliance.

The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Building Services Engineer - Electrical to join our Advisory team - a vibrant, inclusive community that celebrates our differences and makes a real impact across the UK.

The Role

As an Assistant Building Services Engineer - Electrical, you will work under the guidance of experienced engineers, supporting the delivery of technically sound electrical engineering solutions across a diverse range of projects. You will assist in the preparation of designs, calculations, drawings and technical documentation while contributing to projects that meet quality, cost and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Assist in the production of technically sound electrical building services designs in accordance with client requirements and industry standards.
  • Support the preparation of electrical calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and project documentation.
  • Assist with the design and coordination of electrical building services systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, security systems and associated infrastructure.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Support engineers in developing practical, efficient and compliant technical solutions.
  • Assist with the production of scheme deliverables while ensuring quality, programme and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Participate in site visits, surveys and inspections where required.
  • Support the identification, communication and management of project risks and hazards.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with health, safety and welfare requirements, including CDM Regulations.
  • Liaise with colleagues, clients, contractors and suppliers as part of project delivery activities.
  • Support project delivery across a variety of sectors including Defence, Justice, Education, Transport and Rail.
  • Carry out general engineering and administrative duties associated with the successful operation of a consulting business.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by following established procedures and best practice.
What You Will Bring To Us
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Understanding of electrical engineering theory and principles with the ability to apply them in practice.
  • Knowledge of electrical building services systems including power, lighting and associated building infrastructure.
  • Understanding of technical design and specification processes.
  • Good competence with engineering software packages and analytical tools.
  • Experience or awareness of AutoCAD, Revit and BIM methodologies.
  • Awareness of commercial considerations associated with project delivery.
  • Understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and risk assessment principles.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Understanding of the interfaces between engineering disciplines.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities effectively.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and progression towards professional registration.
Desirable
  • Experience gained within a Graduate Engineer, Assistant Engineer or similar role.
  • Knowledge of electrical design software and calculation packages.
  • Experience within a building services consultancy environment.
  • Experience working on projects across Defence, Education, Justice, Rail or Transport sectors.
  • Membership of, or progression towards membership of, a relevant professional institution such as IET or CIBSE.
  • Experience undertaking site surveys, inspections and technical assessments.
  • Understanding of Building Regulations and associated industry standards.
