Job summary

Morgan McKinley is seeking a hands-on Assistant Accountant to join its finance team in a growing manufacturing and engineering environment. You will support month-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, VAT returns and inventory accounting.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the role covers stock movements, WIP, depreciation, and assisting with budgeting and year-end processes. A manufacturing/stock-focused background and SAP experience are highly desirable; part-qualified ACCA/CIMA or AAT

Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing, engineering or inventory-based business.
• Understanding stock movements, inventory valuation and WIP.
• Experience using SAP software.

Responsibilities

• Preparing monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.
• Managing month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and depreciation.
• Completing balance sheet reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and resolving aged or unreconciled balances.
• Preparing and reviewing VAT returns, reconciling VAT control accounts and checking VAT coding, including import VAT and deferment statements.
• Managing bank, payment-provider, debtor, creditor and other key account reconciliations.
• Reviewing inventory transactions, stock adjustments, stock valuations and WIP balances.
• Investigating stock variances and unusual inventory movements, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
• Maintaining the fixed asset register and reconciling balances to the general ledger.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting, P&L analysis and variance investigations.
• Assisting with year-end accounts, external audit requirements and ad hoc financial reporting.

We are working with a growing business within the manufacturing and engineering sector to recruit a hands-on Assistant Accountant to join its finance team.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this is a varied role offering responsibility across month-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, VAT returns and inventory accounting. We are particularly keen to speak with candidates who have previous experience within a manufacturing, engineering or stock-led environment, with a good understanding of stock movements, inventory valuation and work in progress.

About You

• Experience in a manufacturing, engineering or inventory-based business is highly desirable, with a strong preference for candidates who understand stock accounting and inventory processes.
• Experience using system such as SAP
