Job summary

Dorset Council is seeking a skilled Building Surveyor to join the Repairs & Maintenance Team. You will take ownership of a diverse portfolio of assets, ensuring buildings are safe, compliant, sustainable, and fit for purpose.

The role supports statutory compliance, budget management, and long-term asset performance under the Strategic Asset Management Plan 2024-2030. You will manage inspections, contractor relationships, and data to improve service delivery across both Operational and Commercial

Qualifications

• Experience in building surveying, repairs and maintenance, facilities management or property management.
• Strong knowledge of building construction, maintenance, compliance and health & safety requirements.
• Experience managing contractors and delivering works within occupied buildings.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Commercial awareness and focus on value for money.

Responsibilities

• Managing a portfolio of assets, overseeing condition, compliance and maintenance activity.
• Procuring, commissioning and managing contractors to deliver repairs and maintenance works.
• Undertaking inspections, condition assessments and defect diagnosis.
• Ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory and lease obligations.
• Supporting budget management, maintenance planning and value for money.
• Building effective relationships with building users, tenants and stakeholders.
• Contributing to service improvement and long-term asset performance.
• Participating in the out-of-hours emergency response rota as required.
