Job summary

Dorset Council is seeking a Building Surveyor to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of assets, ensuring safety, compliance, sustainability and value for money. Working within our Repairs & Maintenance Team, you will provide surveying expertise across repairs, maintenance, compliance and minor works to support long-term asset performance.

This role covers reactive and planned maintenance, statutory compliance and contractor management, with a focus on value for money and effective stakeholder

Qualifications

• Experience in building surveying, repairs and maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of building construction, maintenance, compliance and health and safety.
• Experience managing contractors and delivering works within occupied buildings.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and customer service skills.
• Commercial awareness and a focus on achieving value for money.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Managing a portfolio of assets, overseeing condition, compliance and maintenance activity.
• Procuring, commissioning and managing contractors to deliver repairs and maintenance works.
• Undertaking inspections, condition assessments and defect diagnosis.
• Ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory and lease obligations.
• Supporting budget management, maintenance planning and value for money.
• Building effective relationships with building users, tenants and stakeholders.
• Contributing to service improvement and long-term asset performance.
• Participating in the out-of-hours emergency response rota as required.
