Job summary

Dorset Council is seeking a skilled Building Surveyor to join the Repairs & Maintenance Team. You will manage a diverse asset portfolio, ensuring safety, compliance and value for money across owned and leased properties in Dorset.

Work within Facilities Management to provide surveying expertise for repairs, maintenance, compliance and minor works, aligning with the council's Strategic Asset Management Plan 2024-2030. Significant travel is required.

Qualifications

• Proficient in building surveying, repairs and maintenance, facilities management or property management.
• Strong knowledge of building construction, maintenance, compliance and health and safety requirements.
• Experience managing contractors and delivering works within occupied buildings.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and customer service skills.
• Commercial awareness and focus on value for money.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a portfolio of assets, monitoring condition, compliance and maintenance activity.
• Procure, commission and manage contractors for repairs and maintenance works.
• Carry out inspections, condition assessments and defect diagnosis.
• Ensure compliance with statute, regulations and lease obligations.
• Support budget management, maintenance planning and value for money.
• Build relationships with building users, tenants and stakeholders.
• Contribute to service improvement and long-term asset performance.
• Participate in out-of-hours emergency rota as required.
