Job summary

Cotswold Archaeology in Needham Market is recruiting Trainee Archaeologists on fixed-term six-month contracts with immediate start dates. The roles involve fieldwork, recording, and learning across various archaeological periods, with accommodation and subsistence provided for away projects.

Starting salary is £27,278 with a comprehensive benefits package, including pension, life insurance, and professional membership. Candidates should be able to undertake away work and drive if required.

Qualifications

• Recent graduate with a degree or masters in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
• Exposure to a range of archaeological periods (prehistoric, roman, medieval, etc.).
• Understanding of core excavation methods, recording and post-excavation work.
• Ability to work in varied outdoor conditions and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in safe fieldwork across CA procedures and industry standards.
• Contribute to site records using pro-forma sheets and registers.
• Assist with artefact and environmental sample processing as required.
• Carry out manual excavation of features with a variety of tools.
• Demonstrate broad knowledge of archaeological periods and practices.
• Develop skills through the trainee log and learning opportunities.
