Job summary

Cotswold Archaeology is seeking Trainee Archaeologists to join our field team in Kemble. The program offers a structured training path with hands‑on field exposure across periods and sites, and will involve away work with accommodation and subsistence provided where required.

Successful candidates may be recent graduates or those with passion for archaeology and a relevant degree. The role includes a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities to gain professional credentials.

Qualifications

• Recent graduate or experienced volunteer with exposure to multiple archaeological periods.
• Experience on different site types (urban, rural, eval) and varied contexts.
• Understanding of core excavation methods, stratigraphy, recording and post-excavation.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on away projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist in safe conduct of fieldwork projects following CA procedures.
• Support site-recording using pro-forma sheets and registers.
• Assist with artefact and environmental sample processing as required.
• Carry out manual excavation with a range of hand tools.
• Develop professional skills through trainee log and feedback.
