Job summary

Education Authority in Northern Ireland seeks an Environmental Risk Specialist – Asbestos to lead asbestos management across the school estate, advising senior managers and shaping strategy to ensure compliance with CAR NI 2012 and related legislation.

You will collaborate with DE, HSENI and suppliers to develop survey programmes, oversee remedial work and contribute to transformation of the service for safer educational environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (UK Qualification and Credit Framework Level 6) or an equivalent or higher qualification with a minimum of three years’ experience in the development and implementation of Asbestos related processes and procedures; OR five years’ experience with similar responsibilities.
• Proven ability to regularly advise senior managers on complex operational matters including statutory and legislative requirements.
• Experience delivering operational services within a complex organisation with knowledge of asbestos compliance risks and managing contractors to achieve targets.

Responsibilities

• Devise and implement systems to monitor, measure, control and report on the work of the service.
• Ensure asbestos management priorities are delivered to a high quality and aligned with departmental policy.
• Provide technical support for asbestos management remedial projects in line with time, cost, quality, and sustainability targets.
• Contribute to service development and staff training for asbestos management.
• Publicly represent and act on behalf of the EA in asbestos management engagements.
