Job summary

Omega Plc in Southampton is seeking an experienced Maintenance Electrician to service a leading supermarket contract. You will maintain and repair electrical and mechanical plant across retail outlets, conducting regular store visits to complete reactive and planned tasks including non-electrical work.

The role requires delivering safe, compliant maintenance with strong fault-finding skills and customer-facing communication.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 and City & Guilds qualifications required for electrical installation or maintenance.
• City & Guilds 18th Edition is required.
• AM2 and/or 2391 certification.
• Experience maintaining electrical systems in commercial or retail environments is essential.

Responsibilities

• Complete Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules within agreed timescales with accurate documentation.
• Perform reactive and planned maintenance on catering and bakery equipment.
• Carry out emergency lighting and fire alarm testing, maintenance and repairs.
• Undertake general building repairs across customer sites.
• Diagnose faults, recommend replacements when non-repairable.
• Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and standards.

Education

NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 236 Part 1 & 2, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Installation or Maintenance

City & Guilds 18th Edition qualification

AM2 and/or 2391 certification

Job description

Job Title: Area Site Technician Location: Southampton Pay Range/details: £39,825.03 per annum (salary including on call standby 1:4) Contract Type: Permanent Omega is supporting a leading facilities management provider in the recruitment of an experienced Maintenance Electrician to join the team to work on a leading supermarket contracts.

The role will involve maintaining and repairing a range of electrical, mechanical plant and equipment in retail outlets, undertaking regular planned store visits to complete reactive, PPMs and minor repairs as requested by the customer (including non-electrical).

Key Responsibilities

• Complete Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules within agreed timescales, ensuring all documentation is completed accurately.
• Deliver both reactive and planned maintenance on catering and bakery equipment.
• Carry out emergency lighting and fire alarm testing, maintenance, and repairs.
• Undertake general building repairs and maintenance as required across customer sites.
• Diagnose faults in plant and equipment, identifying non-repairable issues and recommending suitable replacement solutions.
• Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with relevant regulations and standards.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 236 Part 1 & 2, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Installation or Maintenance.
• City & Guilds 18th Edition qualification.
• AM2 and/or 2391 certification.
• Proven experience in electrical maintenance within a commercial or retail environment.

Ideal Candidate

• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience using PDA/mobile job management systems.
• Ability to maintain and repair a broad range of electrical and mechanical equipment, including commercial catering and bakery equipment.
• Previous experience carrying out PPM and reactive maintenance in a retail or multi-site environment.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and customer service abilities.

Candidates who are currently a Mobile Maintenance Electrician, Building Services Engineer, Commercial Electrician, or Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer may be suitable for this position.
