If you already sell CNC machine tools, manufacturing technology or closely related capital equipment, this is a territory worth looking at.

We are recruiting an Area Sales Manager for an established UK engineering business supplying CNC machine tools and technical support into manufacturers across the North West and North Midlands.

This isn't a blank-sheet territory.

You will be taking responsibility for an established customer base, developing those relationships further and creating new opportunities across a strong manufacturing region.

The business is looking for someone who understands that selling machine tools is not about firing quotations at people.

It is about understanding what a manufacturer is trying to achieve, discussing applications properly, building credibility and staying involved through what can be a long capital-equipment sales process.

The role

You will take commercial responsibility for the territory, working with existing customers while continuing to develop new business.

That will include:

• Managing and developing established customer relationships
• Identifying new machine-tool and manufacturing opportunities
• Visiting manufacturers across the North West and North Midlands
• Understanding machining applications and customer requirements
• Developing capital-equipment opportunities from initial conversation through to order
• Producing and progressing quotations
• Working alongside applications, service and technical colleagues
• Building longer-term relationships rather than concentrating purely on one-off transactions
• Representing the business at exhibitions, demonstrations and industry events where required

There is genuine autonomy with the territory, but importantly, you will have technical and service support behind you.

What we're looking for

Ideally, you will already have experience selling CNC machine tools.

However, we are also interested in people from closely related manufacturing technology backgrounds where you already understand machine shops, engineering customers and technical sales.

Relevant experience could include:

• CNC machine tools
• Cutting tools and tooling
• Manufacturing technology
• Machining solutions
• Automation associated with machining/manufacturing
• Other technically complex capital equipment sold into engineering and manufacturing companies

The important part is that you can walk into a manufacturing business and understand the environment.

You should be comfortable discussing applications with engineers, production teams and business owners, while also having the commercial ability to develop an opportunity and ultimately win the order.

This is not intended as an entry-level sales position.

We are looking for someone with enough industry and commercial experience to take ownership of an established territory and develop it.

The package

The role offers a £65,000 basic salary, alongside a company car and performance-related commission/bonus, plus the wider company benefits package.

The business understands that experienced machine-tool salespeople are valuable and that attracting the right person requires a competitive package.
