What are the requirements?

Essential:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of mechanical principles (or willingness to learn)
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately, both verbal and written
  • Willingness to learn how to use hand tools and workshop equipment safely
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Positive attitude and commitment to learning
  • Understanding the importance of excellent customer service
  • A genuine interest in bicycles and cycle maintenance.

Desirable:

  • Some previous experience in cycle maintenance (paid, voluntary, or personal)
  • Previous customer service or retail experience, preferably within the cycle industry
What will you be doing as an apprentice bicycle mechanic?

Under the guidance of experienced technicians, the apprentice will:

  • Examine bicycles and identify components that may need repair, replacement, or adjustment
  • Assist with installing, repairing, and replacing bicycle components including handlebars, seats, lights, stands, and accessories
  • Adjust bicycle components in line with customer requests or company specifications
  • Install and adjust speed, brake, and gear mechanisms
  • Fit new bicycle parts and accessories as directed
  • Assist with disassembling axles and other components to repair or replace faulty parts
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
  • Develop product knowledge and understanding of the cycle industry
  • Support customer service activities, including communicating clearly with customers about repairs
  • Work effectively as part of a small team and contribute positively to the workplace
  • Be flexible to work weekends when required
  • Carry out any other related duties
