Job summary

OpenAI is seeking an Applied AI Engineer in London to design, build, and deploy AI-powered products and systems for Digital Native customers. You will work hands-on in code, develop evaluation harnesses, and guide decisions across models, retrieval, and governance to deliver measurable business impact.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building, and delivering AI or ML systems in enterprise environments.
• Hands-on coding to build prototypes, evaluation harnesses, and production accelerators.
• Ability to translate deployment experience into product feedback and architecture decisions.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Digital Native customers to identify high-value opportunities and translate them into architectures and plans.
• Design, build, and deploy AI systems that deliver measurable business outcomes.
• Write and debug code, build evaluation systems, and integrate complex components.
• Make technical decisions across model choice, retrieval, tools, data, reliability, latency, cost, safety, security, and governance.
• Diagnose implementation challenges, reproduce failures, test hypotheses, and drive blockers to resolution.
• Help customers progress prototypes to reliable production systems with sustained adoption.
• Collaborate with OpenAI Product, Research, Engineering, Security, and GTM teams to translate deployment experience into product feedback.
• Create reusable architectures, tooling, playbooks, and guidance for future deployments.
