Job summary

Horton Lodge Special School is seeking an enthusiastic Ancillary Assistant to join the team from November 2026 on a 15-hour contract. The role includes supporting a swim session on Wednesdays and assisting in a classroom on Thursdays and Fridays, with a focus on creating a safe and engaging environment for primary-age pupils.

The successful candidate will be friendly, energetic and eager to learn, with the ability to form positive relationships with children, staff and parents.

• Experience of working with or caring for primary-age children (or a willingness to learn).
• Able to build positive relationships with children, colleagues and parents.
• Flexible, adaptable and willing to take on a range of responsibilities with a proactive attitude to learning.

Responsibilities

• Support the swimming session on Wednesdays 09:15–11:45.
• Support a class on Thursdays and Fridays 08:45–15:45.
• Help maintain a safe, nurturing environment for pupils with diverse needs.
• Work under the guidance of the swimming lead and class team.

15-hour Ancillary Assistant Required

Horton Lodge Special School is looking for an enthusiastic Ancillary Assistant to join our team from November 2026. This particular role will involve supporting the swim team on a Wednesday morning and then 2 full days in a classroom. This opportunity is ideal for an individual looking to build a fulfilling career in a special school setting with no Teaching Assistant qualification required.

Details of the post:

• Wednesday: 09:15-11:45 to support a swimming session
• Thursday and Friday: 08:45-15:45 to support a class

As an Ancillary Assistant, you will work under the guidance of the swimming lead and class team to provide essential support to pupils. You will help maintain a safe, nurturing and engaging environment for pupils with diverse needs.
