Job description

Our Analytics Engineering team

Our goal in Growth and Marketing is to build Monzo into a global brand people love. We find exciting new ways to attract and engage customers, creating features and initiatives that generate buzz. We also focus on effective communication strategies with our customers, determining what products to promote and when. Data plays a crucial role in all our activities, and this role will lead the team ensuring our Growth and Marketing teams can leverage data to make informed decisions.

Our Analytics Engineering discipline operates at the intersection of data, engineering, and our core collectives—Money, Borrowing, Operations, Financial Crime, and beyond.

The AE teams build downstream data models from backend services, aiming to make our Data Warehouse a competitive advantage. We seek a discipline capable of creating a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective Data Warehouse that supports decision-making with high performance.

Managers within Data have two main responsibilities: people management and technical product development. Your focus will be on supporting engineers' growth, guiding them through challenges, and celebrating successes. You will also lead and participate in technical initiatives, shaping the Data organization to focus on valuable work, ensuring quality and attention to detail.

There will be a strong emphasis on implementing best practices across our data disciplines and enhancing Data Governance principles in collaboration with others.

Working in a multi-disciplinary team, you will:

  • Be a hands-on leader in building a team of exceptional analytics engineers to make Data at Monzo the industry standard
  • Nurture 3 to 4 engineers, supporting their development through regular 1:1s, feedback, and mentorship
  • Assist in prioritizing initiatives and projects, collaborating with other leads across collectives
  • Participate actively in review cycles, architecture, design, and development of pipelines
  • Contribute to hiring within Analytics Engineering
  • Work with other leads to establish scalable governance and best practices
  • Manage central Analytics Engineering projects, ensuring proper scoping and timely delivery
  • Build trusted relationships with various teams and leadership, demonstrating the ability to execute either hands-on or through team leadership
  • Support and own the pipelines contributed to, including on-call support as needed

We’d love to hear from you if…

You have experience managing or mentoring high-performing engineers, with strong expertise in data warehousing architecture at scale, and a passion for leading data projects such as warehousing, visualization, big data, or ETL. You also know how to hire great data engineers and are comfortable working both hands-on and in a leadership capacity.

Nice To Haves:

  • Experience in finance or banking environments
  • Experience in highly regulated sectors (e.g., finance, insurance, gaming, healthcare)
  • Familiarity with dbt, BigQuery, and Looker

Not ticking every box? That’s okay! We value diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds, especially women and people of color, to apply—even if you don’t meet every requirement. If you’re passionate about this role, we’d love to hear from you.
