Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is seeking a dedicated Teacher of Physical Education for an Alternative Provision in East Lancashire. The role targets vulnerable students with ADHD, ASD, and behavioural needs, using sport to boost engagement, self-esteem, and teamwork.

You will deliver inclusive PE, maintain high energy, and build trusting relationships with KS3/KS4 learners. Immediate start, with long-term supply and potential permanent progression within a supportive, multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

• QTS, ECT, or a robust sports coaching background with relevant qualifications.
• Experience in AP/PRU or challenging secondary environment is advantageous.
• Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage disengaged youths.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Inclusive PE and outdoor activity sessions tailored to pupils with varied abilities and needs.
• Promote Positive Behaviour using de-escalation strategies and resilience-focused approaches.
• Mentor KS3/KS4 students and build strong, professional rapport.
• Track Progress and adapt ILPs based on student participation and development.

About the Role

Are you an energetic, resilient, and adaptable PE teacher looking to make a genuine, impact on the lives of vulnerable young people?We are working in partnership with an established Alternative Provision (AP) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) setting in East Lancashire that is urgently seeking a dedicated Teacher of Physical Education. Many of the students in this setting experience barriers to mainstream education, including ADHD, ASD, and mild-to-moderate behavioural needs. Your goal will be to use sport and physical activity as a vehicle to build trust, improve engagement, foster teamwork, and boost student self-esteem.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver Inclusive Lessons: Plan and deliver engaging, adaptive PE and outdoor activity sessions tailored to pupils with varied physical abilities and distinct behavioural needs.
• Promote Positive Behaviour: Utilise effective de-escalation strategies, emotional resilience, and therapeutic approaches to manage classroom and activity behaviour constructively.
• Mentorship & Engagement: Look beyond challenging behaviours to build strong, professional rapport with Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (KS3/KS4) students.
• Track Progress: Monitor student participation, personal development, and attitudes toward physical well-being, adjusting curriculum's to suit individual learning plans (ILPs).
• Cross-Curricular Support: Assist colleagues with broader outdoor education, team-building activities, or functional skills delivery when required.

Candidate Requirements

• Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Early Career Teacher (ECT), or a robust sports coaching background (e.g., PGCE, degree in Sports Science, or equivalent youth work/instructor qualifications).
• Experience: Prior experience working within an Alternative Provision, PRU (Pupil Referral Unit), SEND school, or challenging secondary school environment is highly advantageous.
• Personal Attributes: High energy, immense emotional resilience, a patient demeanour, and a natural ability to connect with disengaged youths.
• Compliance: Must hold (or be willing to process) an enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service.
