We currently have a great opportunity for an Alarm Technician to join our team within the Control Room. This includes one permanent position and one 12-month fixed-term contract, both full-time, based in Exeter. The salary ranges from £24,125 - £27,709 (£28,950 - £33,250 including shift allowance), plus excellent benefits.

About the role:

You will support internal and external stakeholders by providing a professional and efficient service, including receiving, interrogating, and acting on alarms from the SCADA system on a 24/7 basis. You will work closely with field Hub sites and operational teams and ensure KPIs and SLAs are met.

Shift Pattern:

Availability to work on a 24/7 shift pattern with a flexible approach, 365 days a year. Shifts are six days on, four days off, with the following hours:

  • Morning: 06:00 – 14:30
  • Afternoon: 14:00 – 22:30
  • Night: 22:00 – 06:30
Key Responsibilities:
  • Alarm Handling: Triage alarms, identify priorities, and respond according to SLA levels. Operate SAM and wet weather suppression buttons confidently, annotate alarms thoroughly, and prioritize alarms effectively.
  • Emergency Line: Answer immediately, putting 'live' calls on hold or terminating as necessary.
  • Admin Duties: Manage various systems including WPD Shutdowns, team mailbox, Minicom, press office contacts, leaver notifications, DUOS, Beach Live, emergency contacts, environment reports, daily checks, flood notices, work orders, event logs, handover reports, IScada resets, fault reporting, and standby spreadsheets.
  • Customer Contacts: Record and action customer calls using CRM, CBR, Event Messaging, SWIMM, Waterlive, and pollution reports.
  • Health, Safety & Security: Respond to staff call/lone worker alerts, vehicle panic alarms, welfare timers, operate CCTV, building alarms, hatch alarms, and ensure staff safety.

  • Experience in a high-volume work environment and office setting.
  • Minimum GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English and Maths.
