Job summary

Multitask Personnel is seeking an experienced Air Conditioning Maintenance Engineer to perform maintenance across a portfolio of public-sector sites, including schools and other occupied buildings, from our Sheffield base. You will manage planned preventative maintenance, fault-finding and repairs on a range of commercial HVAC systems while working on occupied sites with minimal disruption.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining commercial air conditioning systems
• Evidence of fault-finding on split, multi-split or VRF/VRV systems
• F-Gas Cat 1 or equivalent qualification
• NVQ/City & Guilds in HVAC or equivalent
• Good communication and ability to work in occupied environments

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on commercial air conditioning and HVAC systems.
• Service, maintain and repair split, multi-split and VRF/VRV air conditioning systems.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and complete appropriate repairs.
• Check operating pressures, temperatures, controls and overall system performance.
• Inspect compressors, condensers, evaporators, fans, filters and associated components.
• Identify refrigerant leaks and complete remedial work within your qualifications and competence.
• Clean or replace filters and other serviceable components as required.
• Carry out basic electrical testing and fault finding associated with HVAC equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns and reactive maintenance requests within agreed service levels.
• Complete service sheets, maintenance reports and compliance documentation accurately.
• Identify additional remedial works and clearly report recommendations to the relevant manager or client.
• Work across public-sector contracts, including schools and other occupied public buildings.
• Liaise professionally with facilities teams, site contacts and other contractors.
• Follow site-specific safeguarding, access, security and health and safety procedures.
• Keep work areas safe, clean and secure, particularly in areas used by staff, pupils and the public.
• Maintain company tools, equipment and any vehicle provided.

About This Opportunity

Our client, an established facilities and building services provider, is looking for an experienced Air Conditioning Maintenance Engineer to join their growing team. This is a varied, mobile role delivering maintenance across a portfolio of public-sector contracts, including schools and other public buildings.

You will be trusted to work independently across occupied sites, taking ownership of planned preventative maintenance, servicing, fault finding and repairs on a wide range of commercial air conditioning and HVAC systems. With much of the work taking place in busy environments, your professionalism, clear communication and ability to minimise disruption will be just as valued as your technical skill.

Key Responsibilities

About You

Essential:

• Previous experience as an Air Conditioning Engineer, HVAC Engineer or in a similar maintenance position.
• Commercial air conditioning maintenance and fault-finding experience.
• Knowledge of split, multi-split and VRF/VRV systems.
• F-Gas Category 1 qualification or an equivalent recognised certification appropriate to the work undertaken.
• A relevant air conditioning, refrigeration or HVAC qualification, such as NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent.
• Good mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
• A professional and considerate approach when working in occupied or sensitive environments.
• Good customer service, communication and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to organise a mobile workload and work independently.
• Full UK driving licence where required for the mobile role.

Desirable:

• Previous experience working across public-sector, education, commercial or facilities management contracts.
• Experience maintaining equipment from manufacturers such as Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Toshiba, Fujitsu or Panasonic.
• Additional experience with AHUs, ventilation, chillers, heat pumps or wider building services maintenance.
