Edmund Optics Ltd. in York, UK, is seeking a Senior E-commerce Backend Engineer: AI Native (f/m/d) to design, develop, and extend backend services that power a modular e-commerce platform.

You will connect personalization, semantic search, DAM, PIM, and ERP integrations, including SAP/HANA, in a fast-paced AI-driven environment. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience, including backend, API, or systems integration work.
• Experience with SAP and/or SAP HANA data and integration patterns.
• Demonstrated use of AI-assisted or agentic coding workflows in real software development.
• Strong backend engineering experience building production web applications, services, and APIs.
• Experience designing/resting RESTful APIs, data interfaces, and integrations.
• Strong SQL/data modeling skills and experience with databases; knowledge of data flows and reliability.
• Experience with source control, automated testing, CI/CD practices, logging, monitoring, and production troubleshooting.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Fluency in English.

Responsibilities

• Backend Platform Development: design, build, maintain, and extend backend services and APIs for modular e-commerce architecture.
• AI-Native Software Development: use AI coding agents to generate, refactor, test, and document production code with security and reliability.
• E-commerce Systems Integration: integrate personalization, semantic/LLM search, DAM, PIM, analytics, and other components.
• ERP/Enterprise Data Integration: build reliable integrations with SAP/HANA and other enterprise systems.
• API & Service Architecture: develop scalable, secure, well-documented APIs for internal and external use.
• LLM & Semantic Capabilities: integrate LLM-enabled/search features into the site with data pipelines.
• Quality, Testing & Debugging: automate testing and validation; ensure observability and performance.
• Modular Architecture & Reusability: create reusable services with clear boundaries and interfaces.
• Vendor & Partner Collaboration: translate platform capabilities into production solutions with partners.
• Continuous Improvement & Emerging Tools: stay current with AI-assisted development and evolving e-commerce tech.
