Edmund Optics Ltd. in York, UK, is seeking a Senior E-commerce Backend Engineer: AI Native. You will design, build, and extend backend services and APIs within a modular e‑commerce architecture, integrating personalization, semantic search, DAM and PIM, and ERP systems like SAP/HANA.

The role focuses on AI‑native development, code quality, security, and scalable data flows, working with cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable e‑commerce experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
• 7+ years of professional software development with substantial backend/API/systems integration work
• Experience with SAP and/or SAP HANA data and integration patterns

Responsibilities

• Design, build, maintain, and extend backend services, APIs, and integration layers for modular e‑commerce architecture
• Use AI‑native development workflows to generate, refactor, test, and document production code
• Integrate personalization platforms, semantic/LLM search, DAM, PIM, analytics, and data services into the e‑commerce stack
• Build and maintain integrations between the e‑commerce platform and SAP/HANA, product, pricing, inventory, orders and other data
• Develop scalable, secure APIs and services for internal apps, third‑party platforms, and customer experiences
• Collaborate with data teams to incorporate LLM‑enabled and semantic capabilities into the site
• Implement automated testing, debugging, observability, and production reliability measures
• Develop reusable services and components to support a modular and composable architecture
• Work with vendors/partners to translate platform capabilities into production solutions
• Stay current with AI-assisted software development and evolving e‑commerce technologies
