Edmund Optics Ltd. in York, UK seeks a Senior E-commerce Backend Engineer: AI-Native to design, build and expand backend services for our modular ecommerce platform.

You will connect core ecommerce capabilities like personalization, semantic search, DAM, PIM, and ERP data while applying AI-assisted development practices in production code. The role requires strong backend fundamentals, systems integration experience, and the ability to move quickly in an AI-enabled environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience with SAP/HANA data and integration patterns.
• Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development workflows in production.
• Strong backend engineering, API design, and integration skills.
• Ability to design and consume RESTful APIs with reliable data interfaces.
• Fluent English communication and teamwork across functions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, maintain and extend backend services and APIs for a modular ecommerce platform.
• Apply AI-native development practices to generate, refactor, test, and document production code.
• Integrate personalization, semantic/LLM search, DAM, PIM and ERP data into the ecosystem.
• Build data flows between SAP/HANA and ecommerce components for reliability.
• Develop scalable, secure APIs and services for internal and partner use.
• Collaborate with frontend, data, and partner teams to implement solutions.
• Establish automated testing and observability across development lifecycles.
• Advise on modular architecture and reusable integration patterns.
• Partner with vendors and internal teams to translate capabilities into solutions.
• Stay current with AI-assisted tooling and ecommerce technologies.
