Job summary

ALTEN, a global engineering and technology consultancy, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our Loughborough team to support aerospace projects. You will design components and assemblies, create CAD models and drawings, and collaborate with manufacturing to ensure robust, manufacturable solutions from concept through to production.

The role requires SolidWorks proficiency, 2–5 years in mechanical design, and a degree in Engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering or equivalent military experience.
• 2–4 years in a mechanical design engineering role.
• Experience within clean energy, automotive, aerospace, or advanced technology environments.
• Knowledge of prototyping and product testing processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Create detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Support product development activities from concept, prototyping, and testing through to production.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
• Participate in design reviews and implement engineering improvements where required.
• Support prototype build, assembly, and validation activities.
• Manage design changes and maintain accurate engineering records and documentation.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and deliver project objectives.
