Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Loughborough team in the Aerospace sector. You will design mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks, create detailed models and drawings, and support projects from concept through to manufacture.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will participate in design reviews and ensure manufacturability, maintaining accurate records and documentation throughout development.

Qualifications

• Aerospace industry experience (mandatory).
• Experience using SolidWorks in a professional engineering environment.
• Strong mechanical design and CAD modelling skills.
• Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles.
• Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Good attention to detail and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks
• Create detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation
• Support product development activities from concept, prototyping, and testing through to production
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
• Participate in design reviews and implement engineering improvements where required
• Support prototype build, assembly, and validation activities
• Manage design changes and maintain accurate engineering records and documentation
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and deliver project objectives
