Job summary

ALTEN in Loughborough is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Test rigs) to join our aerospace-focused team. You will design test rigs, frames, and interfaces, produce 3D models and drawings, and support assembly and testing in workshop environments.

The role is junior to mid level (2-5 years), on-site, full-time, with a pathway to grow within multidisciplinary teams and gain exposure to cutting-edge engineering projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (or equivalent military experience)
• Experience designing test rigs, fixtures, or lab equipment
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, prototyping, and manufacturing processes
• Experience producing detailed drawings and documentation
• Familiarity with CAD tools including NX/CATIA/SolidWorks/Creo
• Proactive problem solving and teamwork in multidisciplinary settings

Responsibilities

• Design and develop test rigs, frames, and interfaces for labs
• Create 3D models and technical drawings for manufacturing
• Support build and assembly of test equipment in workshops
• Conduct testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of prototypes
• Collaborate with test, systems, and manufacturing engineers
• Contribute to design reviews and implement improvements
• Ensure safety, reliability, and maintainability of equipment
• Help improve test facilities and engineering processes
