Job summary

ALTEN is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support development and industrialisation of aerospace components in the Derby/ Bristol/ Solihull area. You will ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, high quality and align with supplier capabilities throughout the product lifecycle.

You will collaborate with engineering teams and suppliers, guiding processes, reviewing drawings, and driving efficient production solutions while resolving technical challenges.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Manufacturing Engineering environment.
• Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles.
• Experience reviewing engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, coatings, surface treatments, and special processes.
• Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
• Ability to provide clear technical assessments of capabilities and limitations.
• Strong problem-solving and proactive approach.
• Able to work independently with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Review component designs for manufacturability including radii and complex geometries.
• Assess manufacturing feasibility balancing quality, cost and supplier capabilities.
• Provide guidance on manufacturing limitations and process constraints.
• Support processes including coatings and surface treatments.
• Collaborate with suppliers to validate capabilities and production solutions.
• Interpret and assess engineering drawings and documentation.
• Work with project teams to provide manufacturing input for decisions.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, risk reduction and cost optimisation.
