Job description

  • Full-time
  • Contract type: Full time - permanent
  • Department: Education
  • Service type: Include Norfolk
Company Description

At Catch22, we are proud of our reputation as a modern and progressive employer. Our 1,300 colleagues and 300 volunteers work at every stage of the social welfare cycle, supporting over 64,000 individuals from cradle to career.

The Catch22 Include School provides a safe, nurturing environment for students who have been unable to sustain a place in mainstream education. By prioritising academic achievement and introducing behaviour interventions and therapeutic support where necessary, we enable them to re-integrate at the same key stage as their peers, and go on to access opportunities in employment and further education.

Job Description

Do you have expertise in working with young people with complex needs and behavioural difficulties? Do you believe that all young people have the capacity to learn, regardless of their life situation? Do you want to be a part of a team that is leading the way, by changing the futures of excluded and marginalised young people?

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our online school to work as an Advocate. Our pupils receive live education online from their homes. You will be responsible for promoting attendance from our pupils by making daily phone calls, taking registration and attending meetings where necessary. You will be a Designated Safeguarding lead and will take action when a concern is raised.

As an online Advocate, flexibility in your working day is a must; most days you may need to be within one of our school sites in Kings Lynn or Norwich, you could be needed to complete home visits or you may be working from the comfort of your own home.

You will be working with students who have been unable to sustain a place in mainstream education, including those with complex, high behaviour and additional learning needs. You will be advocating for our most vulnerable learners, specialising in support of children looked after and previously looked after while inspiring them to learn and achieve.

Working closely with the Headteacher and teaching staff, you’ll assess each pupil’s educational, emotional and behavioural needs, and then devise tailored support programmes to meet them. These could include individual sessions, group work, family visits and other interventions.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Leading and providing Duty support for staff and students
  • Supporting staff in the completion of behaviour management plans and Risk Assessments
  • Leading on the recording of data for behaviour including physical interventions/exclusions/duty calls
  • Organising and delivering 1:1 and small group targeted support, advice, guidance, practical help and mentoring for learners as appropriate to their needs and context
  • Establishing close collaborative and informative relationships with a range of partners including, but not limited to, Social Services, YOT, police, parents and communities
  • Facilitating reintegration, restorative and class meetings to address and prevent harm caused by students as well as relationships and bullying incidents
  • A relevant professional qualification (NVQ level 2) in working with young people, e.g. teaching, youth and community work, social work, counselling, mentoring.
  • Level 2 English and Maths.

You will need to have a track record of assessing a range of complex family situations and putting effective strategies in place. You’ll need a proven understanding of social inclusion, behavioural management techniques, influences on children and young people, and theories relating to childcare and child development.

The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents and carers and other agencies will be vital, allied with the organisational skills to manage a busy caseload while maintaining accurate records and preparing written reports. But most of all, you’ll share our passion for achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable young people.

Experience:

  • Working with complex young people and families who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Building sustainable relationships with young people and their families, both formally and informally.
  • Assessing family situations and needs to develop and implement effective strategies, risk assessments and individual educational/learning support plans.
  • Working with a range of issues affecting young people and their families, such as substance misuse, domestic violence, multiple exclusions, offending behaviour.
  • Using a holistic person-centred approach when working in or with multi-professional teams/agencies.
  • Managing complex cases ranging from level 2-4 on the continuum of need.

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check. As with all posts, the successful applicant will be required to provide proof of their right to work in the UK and, if they have lived abroad, overseas police clearance/s will need to be sought.
