Job summary

GSL Education Hull Branch is seeking an Advanced Teaching Assistant to work in a secondary school in York. You will provide targeted support, lead learning activities and help pupils reach their full potential, working closely with teachers to deliver interventions.

The role requires safeguarding awareness, strong communication and organisational skills, and an Enhanced DBS. An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years is preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar school-based support role is essential.
• A Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent is desirable.
• Strong understanding of effective classroom support and ability to deliver learning activities confidently.
• Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, reliable and adaptable with commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
• Up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years with any gaps explained.
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to apply for one.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned learning activities and targeted interventions to individuals and small groups.
• Provide tailored support to pupils who require additional help with learning or engagement.
• Work with teachers to prepare resources and support effective classroom learning.
• Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards education.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers and support staff.
• Contribute to positive classroom management and a safe, inclusive learning environment.
