Job summary

GSL Education Hull Branch is seeking an Advanced Teaching Assistant to work in a secondary school in York. You will provide targeted support, lead learning activities and help pupils reach their full potential, working closely with teachers to deliver interventions.

The role requires safeguarding awareness, strong communication and organisational skills, and an Enhanced DBS. An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years is preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar school-based support role is essential.
• A Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent is desirable.
• Strong understanding of effective classroom support and ability to deliver learning activities confidently.
• Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, reliable and adaptable with commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
• Up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years with any gaps explained.
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to apply for one.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned learning activities and targeted interventions to individuals and small groups.
• Provide tailored support to pupils who require additional help with learning or engagement.
• Work with teachers to prepare resources and support effective classroom learning.

Advanced Teaching Assistant Role:

The successful Advanced Teaching Assistant will take on a varied role supporting teaching and learning across the school. You will provide individual and small-group assistance, help deliver planned activities and support pupils who may require additional guidance, while maintaining high expectations for learning and behaviour.

Advanced Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

Advanced Teaching Assistant Requirements:

• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar school-based support role is essential.
• A relevant Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
• Strong understanding of effective classroom support and the ability to deliver learning activities confidently.
• Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
• A proactive, reliable and adaptable approach, with a commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
• An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years, with any employment gaps explained
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
