Job summary

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust in Northamptonshire is seeking a Biomedical Scientist specializing in Cellular Pathology to perform macroscopic description, dissection and tissue sampling to support accurate histological reporting and high-quality patient care.

You will work with the Advanced Scientist Dissector, leading on RCPath category C specimens and GI D/E specimens after training, and you will maintain CPD, clinical audits and HCPC registration.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist (BMS) and current registration status.
• IBMS Membership (MIBMS) or Fellowship (FIBMS) of the Institute of Biomedical Science.
• IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice including the GI module.
• Ability to work autonomously within professional and managerial boundaries and maintain CPD and clinical audit.
• Advanced knowledge of histology including macroscopic description and dissection.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert macroscopic description, dissection, and block sampling of tissue specimens.
• Support delivery of a quality driven, patient-focused histopathology service.
• Work with senior leadership and clinical teams to support accurate histological reporting.
• Cover RCPath category C specimens and GI Category D & E on training.
• Mentor and train in categories A–B specimens and maintain CPD/clinical audit.
