Job summary

Diagnexia is seeking a Senior Biomedical Scientist (Dissection) to join our fully digitised pathology laboratory in Oxford. You will drive quality, support lab teams and deliver a high‑quality service in a forward‑looking, digitally driven environment.

We value HCPC registration, a BSc in Biomedical Science, CPD, and substantial UK histopathology experience, with leadership capabilities to mentor staff and prepare for UKAS audits.

Qualifications

• Currently HCPC registered as Biomedical Scientist
• BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent
• Proof of CPD and competency
• IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Dissection OR a Masters degree
• Minimum 4+ years post-registration in a UKAS accredited Histopathology/Cellular Pathology Lab
• Strong dissection experience Category A-C; D&E a bonus
• Experience in Special stains, Embedding, Microtome; mentoring staff

Responsibilities

• Undertake dissection for Category A-C with evolving D&E complexity
• Act as technical reference for junior staff on dissection
• Supervise MLA/BMA to ensure timely lab targets
• Lead or co-lead UKAS/ISO 15189 readiness activities
• Design and deliver in-house training and competency assessments
• Develop and maintain SOPs per RCPath guidelines
• Deputise for BMS Lead or Lab Manager during absence
• Provide specialist advice to service users
• Monitor stock and operational readiness
• Collaborate on method development for dissection procedures
• Ensure QC/QA compliance and GDPR/UKAS adherence
• Produce reports for pathologists and stakeholders
• Participate in staff interviews and CPD support
• Contribute to R&D in tissue labelling and digitisation
