Job summary

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust seeks a Senior Biomedical Scientist in Dissection to join the Histopathology team. The post involves expert specimen dissection across RCPath categories A–C, supporting accurate diagnostics within a busy lab.

The role requires IBMS registration, strong histology experience, leadership skills and an ability to train others. You will contribute to service delivery, quality management and patient care at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Qualifications

• IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection
• HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist
• BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent
• MSc or higher qualification in a relevant field
• CPD evidence and ongoing professional development

Responsibilities

• Perform independent dissection of complex specimens within RCPath A–C categories
• Lead the BMS dissection team and provide senior clinical advice
• Maintain departmental records and documentation
• Contribute to service delivery and workload planning
• Provide scientific/technical guidance to colleagues and service users
• Participate in training and development of trainees
• Engage in meetings and quality improvement activities
• Liaise with other pathology disciplines to ensure patient care
• Supervise, recruit, and appraise staff as required
• Support on-call service as needed
