Job summary

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an ambitious Advanced Biomedical Scientist to join the Histology Dissection team within Cellular Pathology. You will carry out expert specimen dissections and work under the supervision of Consultant Histopathologists to support timely service delivery.

The post requires HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist, an MSc in a related subject and the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection.

Qualifications

  • HCPC registered BMS is required.
  • IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection is required.
  • MSc level education in a related subject is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake expert specimen dissection across Histopathology sub-specialties.
  • Support Consultant Histopathologists and senior staff in service delivery.
  • Supervise and train staff within the department.
  • Maintain timely workflow and uphold high scientific and technical standards.

The Successful candidate must have 'The Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection'.


The Cellular Pathology department is looking for enthusiastic, friendly and well-motivated individual to support the existing Advanced BMS team, liaising with the Cellular Pathology Management and Clinical Team leads for the Service.


The successful candidate will be expected to work carry out dissection with support from a Specialist Doctor and a team of Fourteen Consultant Histopathologist.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist educated to MSc level in an appropriate subject and be a Member or Fellow of the IBMS.


The post holder will hold the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection.


The post holder will undertake the role of an expert specimen dissector in a range of Histopathology sub-specialties and will achieve competency in the dissection of category A, B and C specimens to support the Consultant Histopathologists with service delivery.


They will be required to work in accordance with Royal College of Pathologists guidelines; and comply with national cancer datasets and tissue pathways in agreement with the medical head of department. They will be involved in the supervision and training of all staff within the department; and they will also be required to work autonomously.


In liaison with the Advanced BMS in specimen reception and dissection, the post holder will ensure a timely workflow and assist in maintaining high scientific and technical standards.
