Job Advert - Advanced Biomedical Practitioner

The pathology departments at NTH and STH are currently collaborating to develop a joint service with services delivered on both hospital sites.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed-term (12 months) Advanced Practitioner (Dissection) to support our expanding service needs. We welcome applicants who hold the IBMS/RCpath Diploma of Expert Practice (DEP) in Histological Dissection and have experience of complex Category D/E dissection.

Applications will also be welcomed from candidates with evidenced experience in Histological dissection who are working towards completing the DEP, initially employed at Band 7 pending successful qualification completion.

Applicants must demonstrate extensive specialist knowledge of Cellular Pathology, technical skills, and leadership skills to support staff training, quality, and development. The successful applicant will work closely with clinical and management teams to deliver an efficient and cohesive service. Excellent communication skills are essential, as the post-holder will collaborate with a wide range of staff.

Main duties of the job
  • Communicate complex, specialised information and advice to service users, including clinicians, patients, and other departments, regarding investigations and interpretation of clinical details, via telephone or face-to-face.
  • Discuss with pathologists and clinicians the patient's clinical history in relation to macroscopic appearances and clinical correlation with naked eye examination, including specimen orientation.
  • Liaise with service users—clinicians, patients, other departments—by giving advice on tissue fixation, attending meetings, giving presentations, training junior staff, and liaising with department staff.
  • May be involved in disclosing audit results to medical staff and collaborating across the Pathology Directorate to ensure diagnostic service delivery.
Working for our organisation
