Job summary

Our client, a professional services firm in Barnstaple, is seeking an Accounts Senior to join their team. This hands-on role involves delivering high-quality accounting and tax services to a diverse client portfolio while mentoring junior staff and supporting the managers.

You will work closely with managers and partners, owning assignments and ensuring deadlines are met in a collaborative general practice setting. ACA/ACCA/AAT part qualified or studying and experience in practice are preferred.

Qualifications

• ACA / ACCA / AAT part qualified or currently studying.
• Experience in an accountancy practice.
• Strong technical understanding of accounting principles and tax compliance.
• Confident using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or IRIS.
• Strong communication skills with a client-focused approach.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
• Able to manage competing priorities effectively.
• Proactive, adaptable, and eager to develop within your career.

Responsibilities

• Preparing year-end financial statements for sole traders, partnerships, charities, and limited companies.
• Preparing VAT returns and assisting with associated client queries.
• Preparing personal and business tax returns and computations.
• Liaising directly with clients to resolve queries and provide support.
• Supporting managers with the development and mentoring of junior staff.
• Managing your own workload and ensuring deadlines are met.
• Working across a range of clients within a general practice environment.

The Role
