Job summary

Clark Wood is recruiting an Accounts Senior / Assistant Manager for an Exeter-based independent firm. You will handle a varied client portfolio, oversee statutory and management accounts, tax computations and VAT returns, and help with forecasts and planning.

You will mentor junior staff and participate in client meetings and network events. The role requires ACA/ACCA or QBE, with strong practice experience, and excellent communication skills for client relationships.

Qualifications

• AAT, ACA or ACCA qualification, or QBE.
• Experience in an accountancy practice is essential.
• Strong accounts preparation and tax compliance experience required.
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills expected.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied portfolio of clients and oversee statutory and management accounts.
• Prepare and review statutory accounts and tax computations.
• Prepare VAT returns and assist with forecasts and business planning.
• Review bookkeeping records for accuracy and completeness.
• Draft correspondence for clients and HMRC; support capital tax matters.
• Attend client meetings, site visits and local networking events; mentor juniors.

Accounts Senior / Assistant Manager | Exeter | £DOE

Accountancy Practice recruitment specialists Clark Wood are working with a large and highly regarded independent firm of chartered accountants in Exeter who are looking to recruit an Accounts Senior / Assistant Manager to join their growing team.

The Role

You will work closely with business owners and take responsibility for a varied portfolio, including:

• Managing a varied portfolio of clients
• Preparing and reviewing statutory and management accounts
• Preparing tax computations and VAT returns
• Assisting with financial forecasts and business planning
• Reviewing bookkeeping records and ensuring financial information is accurate
• Drafting correspondence for clients and HMRC
• Supporting clients with capital tax matters, including IHT and CGT
• Attending client meetings, site visits and local networking events
• Identifying planning opportunities and adding value for clients
• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team

About You

• AAT, ACA or ACCA Qualified, Part Qualified or Qualified by Experience
• Previous experience within an accountancy practice is essential
• Strong accounts preparation and tax compliance experience
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills
• Organised, methodical and commercially aware
• Confident providing practical advice to clients
