Job summary

Trial Balance in Barnstaple is seeking an Accounts Semi Senior to join its established team. You will assist with year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, and support personal and corporate tax compliance.

You’ll also handle VAT returns, bookkeeping, client queries, and collaborate with colleagues to meet deadlines while developing technical skills through training. AAT qualification is advantageous; strong practice experience is valued.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in an accountancy practice environment.
• AAT qualification would be advantageous, though strong practice experience also considered.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in the preparation of year-end accounts for a varied portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Assisting with personal and corporate tax compliance.
• Completing VAT returns and bookkeeping assignments where required.
• Building positive relationships with clients and responding to day-to-day queries.
• Supporting senior colleagues with accounting and taxation assignments.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure client deadlines are met and work is completed to a high standard.
• Developing your technical knowledge through practical experience and ongoing training.

As Accounts Semi Senior, your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting in the preparation of year-end accounts for a varied portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
• Assisting with personal and corporate tax compliance
• Completing VAT returns and bookkeeping assignments where required
• Building positive relationships with clients and responding to day-to-day queries
• Supporting senior colleagues with a range of accounting and taxation assignments
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure client deadlines are met and work is completed to a high standard

The successful Accounts Semi Senior will:

Have previous experience gained within an accountancy practice environment and be keen to continue developing their technical skills.

Part or full AAT qualification would be advantageous, although strong relevant practice experience will also be considered. You'll be organised, pro‑active and confident communicating with both clients and colleagues, with a positive approach to learning and development. Just as importantly, you'll enjoy being part of a team and contributing to a positive working environment.
