Job summary

PHMG is seeking an Accounts Payable Manager in Old Trafford, Manchester. The role focuses on strategic process optimisation, strong financial controls and leading the AP team to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.

You will work across Finance, Operations and wider business to ensure timely and accurate supplier payments, maintain robust controls and deliver on-month end responsibilities. The package includes base salary and OT earnings.

• Experience with ERP systems, Navision preferred.
• Multi-currency AP environment experience.
• Experience leading a high-performing AP team.
• Strong technical knowledge of AP, controls, supplier management and cash flow.

Role: Accounts Payable Manager Location: Old Trafford, Manchester Hours: 8.45am - 5.15pm Monday to Friday Package: £35,000 basic, £40,000 OT E

Our Accounts Payable Manager role is a blend of strategic process optimisation, financial control, and team leadership within the finance function. You will oversee the end-to-end Accounts Payable function, driving efficiency through automation while maintaining robust internal controls and strong stakeholder relationships. Working closely with the wider finance team and operations teams across the business, you will ensure the resolution of financial discrepancies. The Accounts Payable Manager will guide, coach, and develop the AP team to foster a high-performance, collaborative culture centred on continuous improvement.

Strategic Objectives & Responsibilities

• Regularly review the aged creditors ledger to ensure supplier accounts are accurately maintained and payments are made appropriately and within agreed terms.
• Reconcile complex supplier statements, investigate and resolve discrepancies, and respond to supplier queries via phone and email to ensure the accuracy and integrity of ledger records.
• Review existing Accounts Payable processes and identify opportunities for improvement, automation and increased efficiency to ensure processes continue to support the operational needs of the business.
• Oversee the end-to-end Accounts Payable function, ensuring supplier invoices and payments are processed accurately, efficiently and within agreed deadlines. Support supplier payment runs and ad hoc payment requirements as necessary.
• Manage and maintain the Purchase Order system (Precoro), including onboarding new suppliers, maintaining the contracts database, administering user access and managing approval workflows.
• Collaborate closely with Management Accounts, FP&A and Operations teams to investigate and resolve financial and operational issues, ensuring effective communication and timely resolution.
• Lead, coach and develop the Accounts Payable team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Oversee key banking activities, including the administration of bank accounts, bank reconciliations, cash receipts and payment controls, ensuring robust financial controls are maintained.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, as well as the annual audit, providing accurate information and completing relevant tasks within agreed deadlines.

Required Experience

• Proven experience working with ERP systems, with experience of Microsoft Navision desirable.
• Strong experience within a multi-currency, multi-ledger Accounts Payable environment.
• Demonstrable experience of leading, coaching and mentoring a high-performing Accounts Payable team.
• Strong technical knowledge of Accounts Payable, financial controls, supplier management and cash flow processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently, take ownership and use initiative.
• Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across finance and wider business functions.
• Advanced Excel skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to analyse and interpret financial data effectively.
• Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to manage supplier relationships and resolve issues professionally and effectively.
