Job summary

Streets is a modern, forward-thinking accountancy practice seeking an Assistant Accountant with 1–2 years' practice experience to develop skills in a supportive, professional environment. You will work on client portfolios across varied industries, assist with VAT, year-end work, MTD submissions, trust returns, and use Excel/Word; study support for AAT/ACCA/ACA is provided.

This is an office-based, full-time role with on-site parking and career progression.

Qualifications

  • Around 1–2 years' experience in a practice environment.
  • Willingness to continue learning and to start or progress AAT studies.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with clients and colleagues.
  • Proactive, organised approach with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Good educational attainment in English and Maths, with related A level results.

Responsibilities

  • Detailing client information on to the in-house accounting system.
  • Preparing working papers to support financial statements.
  • Preparing summaries of debtors, creditors, pre-payments and accruals.
  • Preparing VAT reconciliations.
  • Posting accounts to the system and posting financial information.
  • Preparing bank reconciliations and MTD submissions.
  • Assisting with trust tax returns and related filings.

Role Overview

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with around one to two years' experience in practice to further develop their skills and progress their career in a supportive and professional environment. Whether you have already started your AAT studies or is looking to begin them, you will work alongside experienced accounting and audit professionals, assisting in the delivery of efficient and accurate accounting services to a varied portfolio of clients across different industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Detailing client information on to the in-house accounting system using both manual and computerised data.
  • Preparing working papers to support financial statements.
  • Preparing summaries of debtors, creditors, pre-payments and accruals.
  • Preparing VAT reconciliations.
  • Posting accounts to the system.
  • Preparing bank reconciliations.
  • Posting financial information onto the in-house accounting software.

Assisting with MTD submissions.

Working as part of our Trust team, including assisting with the preparation of trust tax returns.

What We Are Looking For
  • Around one to two years' experience gained within a practice environment, looking to build on this and progress your career.
  • Willingness to continue learning, whether that means carrying on with existing AAT studies or starting them for the first time.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact confidently with clients and colleagues.
  • A proactive and organised approach to work, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a desire to understand the "why" behind the numbers.
  • IT proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Good educational attainment, grade 5 upwards in English and Maths, and good A level results in related subjects (business, economics, maths).
