Job summary

Reed is recruiting an Accounts Assistant / Accounts Semi Senior for its Chelmsford office. The role offers hybrid working up to 2 days from home after probation and a competitive salary dependent on experience. You’ll handle a diverse client portfolio across accounting, VAT, and taxation with exposure to audits.

Ideal candidates will have accountancy practice experience and be studying towards or have completed AAT qualifications, with strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

Qualifications

• Previous accountancy practice experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare year-end statutory and management accounts.

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly respected accountancy practice in Chelmsford that is looking to add an ambitious and motivated Accounts Assistant / Accounts Semi Senior to its growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous accountancy practice experience who is currently studying towards, or has recently completed, their AAT qualification and is looking to continue their professional development within a supportive and forward-thinking firm.

The Role

You’ll work with a diverse portfolio of clients, gaining exposure to a wide range of accounting, taxation and audit responsibilities, including:

• Preparing year-end statutory accounts and management accounts
• Completing VAT returns and bookkeeping assignments
• Preparing personal and business tax returns
• Assisting the audit team with client audits and site visits
• Liaising directly with clients to gather information and resolve queries
• Using Xero and other accounting software to maintain accurate records
• Preparing comprehensive working papers for review by senior team members

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
• AAT Level 3 qualification as a minimum
• Currently studying towards or recently completed AAT Level 4
• Knowledge of accounts preparation, VAT and taxation
• Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A positive attitude and a genuine desire to learn and progress
