Job summary

Sheridan Maine is seeking an Accountant - Projects & Process Improvement for a forward-thinking organisation. The role blends hands-on finance activity with leading strategic process-improvement projects, including automation and AI initiatives.

Based near the Somerset/Dorset border with hybrid working after a training and probation period, the successful candidate will influence financial processes across entities and support governance, reporting and compliance.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of finance, reporting and compliance activities while leading strategic projects.
• Prepare and review management accounts, financial statements, VAT returns and audit information.
• Provide management-level review of financial information across multiple entities.
• Maintain accurate investment information and develop efficient systems for records management.
• Support company secretarial and corporate governance requirements, including statutory filings and records maintenance.
• Identify opportunities to improve finance and compliance processes through automation, technology and AI.
• Lead projects from concept through implementation, including planning, specifications, testing and adoption.
• Work with software providers and internal stakeholders to implement new systems and improvements.
• Act as internal champion for AI, identifying practical, secure efficiency gains.

Sheridan Maine is delighted to be working with an established and successful organisation to recruit an Accountant - Projects & Process Improvement.

This is a genuinely interesting opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys the variety of a broad finance role but also has a passion for improving processes and finding better ways of working.

Working as part of a small and collaborative team, you will combine your accounting expertise with responsibility for a range of projects focused on process improvement, systems, automation and the effective use of AI.

This role would suit an accountant who is looking for something different from a traditional finance position and who enjoys having the opportunity to influence and improve the way an organisation operates.

The role is based near the Somerset/Dorset border, with hybrid working available following an initial training and probationary period.

The Role

You will support the delivery of finance, reporting and compliance activities whilst taking the lead on a number of strategic projects.

• Supporting the preparation and review of management accounts, financial statements, VAT returns and audit information.
• Providing management-level review of financial information across a number of entities.
• Maintaining accurate investment information and developing efficient systems for the management of financial and corporate records.
• Supporting company secretarial and corporate governance requirements, including statutory filings and maintenance of company records.
• Identifying opportunities to improve finance and compliance processes through automation, technology and AI.
• Leading projects from initial concept through to implementation, including project planning, system specifications, testing and user adoption.
• Working with software providers and internal stakeholders to implement new systems and improvements.
• Acting as the internal champion for AI, identifying practical and secure ways in which it can improve efficiency, reporting and knowledge management.
• Supporting and training colleagues in the effective use of new systems, technology and processes.
• Driving a continuous programme of process and efficiency improvements across the organisation.

This is a varied role where no two days are likely to be the same, and you'll have the opportunity to become involved in both the hands‑on finance activity and wider strategic projects.

About You

We are looking for a qualified accountant with at least three years' relevant experience who is looking for a role where they can make a real difference.

You'll ideally have:

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
• Strong accounting and financial reporting experience.
• Experience of improving finance processes, systems or ways of working.
• A genuine interest in technology, automation and AI, with the confidence to explore how these can be applied practically within a finance environment.
• Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues, management and external providers.
• A proactive, solution-focused approach and a desire to continually improve processes.

You don't need to be an IT specialist, we are looking for an accountant first and foremost, who is curious about technology and enjoys finding better ways of working.
