Job summary

The Home Improvement Team at Bury Council is seeking a Home Improvement Officer to deliver a comprehensive technical surveying and project management service, with a focus on disabled adaptations to keep homes safe, accessible, and compliant.

You will manage projects from survey to completion, prepare specifications, supervise contractors on site, and authorise payments while translating OT recommendations into inclusive design solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience of surveying residential properties and preparing specifications, drawings, and schedules of work.
• Strong understanding of building construction, building regulations, and health & safety.
• Experience of managing adaptation or improvement projects, ideally including Disabled Facilities Grants.
• Ability to liaise with clients, contractors, architects and internal teams and resolve issues on site.

Responsibilities

• Survey residential properties and prepare specifications, drawings, and schedules of work.
• Provide a comprehensive surveying and project management service from feasibility through to completion.
• Oversee contractors on site and authorise interim and final payments.
• Translate Occupational Therapy recommendations into practical inclusive design solutions.
