Job summary

The Graduate Network is seeking an Academic Learning Mentor at a Walsall secondary school to support learners who require additional help. You'll deliver focused 1:1 and small-group interventions, helping students build confidence and attainment, including those with Autism.

This temporary role runs September 2026 to July 2027. The ideal graduate is patient, resilient and capable of explaining work clearly while forming positive relationships with pupils and staff.

Qualifications

  • 2:2 degree or above in any subject.
  • Genuine interest in supporting young people with additional academic or SEN needs.
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, adaptable approach.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver focused 1:1 and small-group interventions to help pupils improve confidence, engagement and attainment.
  • Support students with Autism by adapting approaches to individual learning needs.
  • Build positive relationships with students and staff and explain work in a clear, encouraging way.

The Role

As an Academic Learning Mentor, you will work closely with students who require additional support to make progress in the classroom. You will provide focused 1:1 and small-group interventions, helping pupils improve their confidence, engagement and attainment. You will also support students with Autism, adapting your approach to meet individual learning needs.

The Candidate

This role will suit a graduate who is patient, resilient and committed to helping young people succeed. You should be confident building positive relationships with students and able to explain work in a clear, encouraging way.

Requirements
  • 2:2 degree or above in any subject.
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people with additional academic or SEN needs.
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, adaptable approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
