Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking an Attendance & Welfare Officer to support students across Thrapston and Northampton. You will monitor attendance, provide welfare support, and work with vulnerable pupils to boost engagement with education.

The role requires safeguarding awareness, strong communication, and the ability to coordinate with parents, staff and external services. This is a permanent, full-time post with development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a school environment is essential.
  • Experience with vulnerable young people is desirable.
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and inclusion focus.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

Attendance & Welfare Officer – Thrapston & Northampton

We are seeking a caring, organised and proactive Attendance & Welfare Officer to support pupils across Thrapston and Northampton. You will play an important role in improving attendance, supporting pupil welfare and working with vulnerable young people to help them engage positively with education.

Location: Thrapston & Northampton
Sector: Education / SEND
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and improve pupil attendance, identifying concerns and patterns at an early stage.
  • Manage and support school avoidance and attendance-related cases.
  • Provide welfare and pastoral support to pupils, particularly those who may be vulnerable or at risk of disengagement.
  • Work closely with pupils, parents/carers, school staff and external agencies to address attendance and welfare concerns.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, safeguarding and welfare records.
  • Support safeguarding and child protection procedures in line with school policies.
  • Promote equality, inclusion, wellbeing and positive behaviour across the school.
  • Communicate professionally with pupils, families, staff and external professionals.
  • Identify concerns, solve problems effectively and make appropriate decisions to support pupil outcomes.

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience working within a school or education environment is essential.
  • Experience working within a secondary school or with vulnerable young people would be desirable.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding, child protection, equality and inclusion.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive and professional relationships with pupils and families.
  • Excellent organisation, time management and record-keeping skills.
  • Confident dealing with sensitive situations and challenging circumstances.
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach.
  • Business Administration and/or Safeguarding qualifications would be desirable.
