Job summary

North Star currently advertises a vacancy for a 2nd Engineer in its ERRV fleet. The role is permanent with a 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off rotation and a 12 October 2026 start date. Candidates must hold a 2nd Engineer CoC and have ERRV experience, with OPITO ERRV ITSO and FRC Boatman courses required.

Qualifications

• 2nd Engineer CoC is required.
• Experience on ERRVs preferred.
• OPITO ERRV ITSO and FRC Boatman certifications are required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the operational status of the vessel, machinery and propulsion systems.
• Maintain vessel and machinery to a safe, reliable condition.
• Report defects to the Chief Engineer and manage planned maintenance.
• Identify stores, spares and equipment needs for the Engine Department.
• Support safe working practices by shore contractors during maintenance.
• Assist fuelling procedures ensuring all precautions are followed.
• Promote the company QHSE policy and inter-departmental communications.

Job description

The Company currently have a vacancy for a 2nd Engineer in its ERRV fleet.

Start Date 12th October 2026. Permanent position. 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off rotation.

Candidates should hold an 2nd Engineer CoC and have worked on ERRVs before.

OPITO ERRV ITSO and FRC Boatman courses are required.

2nd Engineer Is Responsible For The Following

• The operational status of the ship, its machinery, propulsion systems and technical equipment permanently installed on board
• The safety of personnel within sphere of influence.
• The maintenance of the vessel, machinery installed on board in a sound condition ready for operations.
• Reporting any defects to the plant and machinery installed on board to the Chief Engineer.
• Recognizing stores requirements, spares and equipment for the Engine Department.
• The execution of actions to fulfil the approved company Planned Maintenance System on board
• Monitoring safe working practices of shore contractors during periods of maintenance.
• Examining and accepting stores and spares delivered to the vessel,.
• Assisting in the fuelling procedure to ensure all precautions are being adhered to.
• Actively promoting and progressing the company Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Policy.
• Actively promoting inter-departmental communications.
