Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Care Assistant to join a multidisciplinary team, providing support to registered nurses and delivering patient care within the ward. You will undertake routine tasks to maintain hygiene, order and safety, and may work unsupervised in the course of duties.

In this role you will assist with preparation for procedures, collection of samples, monitoring of vital signs, and help with mobility and rehabilitation activities.

Qualifications

  • SVQ III in healthcare or working towards it, or equivalent experience in caring environment.
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary/team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out assigned patient care tasks effectively within a busy environment.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Active participation in the Personal Development Plan to support continuing professional development.
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of patients for procedures.
  • Assist with admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
  • Assist in the collection of routine urine/blood specimens.
  • Monitor and order supplies and carry out housekeeping duties to support patient care.
  • Provide escort duties as required.
  • Undertake recording of patient vital signs and report results to registered staff.
  • Assist in maintenance and improvement of patient mobility in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Report observed changes in patients' needs and maintain accurate records for effective communication.

The Role

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will carry out care duties for patients, in support of a registered nurse, and will regularly work unsupervised.

In This Key Role, You Will

  • Report observed changes in the patients physical and psychological needs and participate in maintaining accurate and up to date records, to ensure effective communication.
