Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Professional Nursing Leader to provide professional leadership across nursing services and contribute to clinical governance and service strategy.

The post requires registration with NMC, Masters level education or progression, and extensive nursing leadership experience to drive high standards of care and interagency collaboration across NHS Lanarkshire. National travel between sites may be required.

Qualifications

  • Masters level education or working towards it.
  • Knowledge of NHS Scotland’s Leadership Qualities framework or equivalent.

  • Be influential within area of responsibility and provide detailed procedural and policy advice.

  • Support and influence pre/post registration staff undertaking further education.
  • Provide operational line management responsibility for designated Lanarkshire wide services e.g. palliative care, mental health practice development.
  • Depose for the Associate Director of Nursing when required, providing professional advice and support to the Divisional Nurse Director.
  • Assess, appraise and apply the evidence-base for Clinical Practice.

The Role
  • Professional and clinical lead for all nursing services, within area of responsibility and designated nursing profession specific lead (i.e. Public Health, Long‑term Conditions, Mental Health and Learning Disability Nursing) as required across NHS Lanarkshire.
  • Expert practitioner, providing professional leadership, support and advice within the multi‑disciplinary team across NHS Lanarkshire to ensure high standards of nursing care.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a programme of clinical audit and research activity within the context of clinical governance.
  • Contribute to the development and operation of nursing/service strategy across NHS Lanarkshire: the major impact of which will be the increase in quality of patient care and service quality.
  • Strengthen nursing contribution and professional decision making in the development of nursing and interagency partnerships.
  • Ensure that National nursing policy and strategy is included in the planning and implementation of service redesign/modernisation including partnership agendas.
  • Provide advice, support, and contribute to the education of staff, as appropriate, within a ward/ service.
  • Will have line management responsibility when operating as senior manager on call or as part of an organisational delegated service responsibility.
In This Key Role, You Will

  • Provide reports on Consultation Frameworks and documents
  • In conjunction with the Associate Nurse Director provide reports to the NMC on professional conduct and fitness to practice.
  • Support and influence pre and post registration staff that are undertaking further education
  • Provide operational line management responsibility for designated Lanarkshire wide services e.g. palliative care, mental health practice development
  • Deputise for the Associate Director of Nursing when required, providing professional advice and support to the Divisional Nurse Director on all aspects of the Service
  • Assess, appraise and critically apply the evidence‑base for Clinical Practice.
  • Be wholly accountable for his/her own nursing practice and take every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve the knowledge, skills and values required for safe and effective practice
What You’ll Bring
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of NHS Scotland’s Leadership Qualities framework or equivalent framework
  • Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development
  • Professional, leadership and managerial experience within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the health care agenda.
  • Car driver, with a full, valid UK/EU/EEA licence (required to travel between sites)
