Job summary

NHS Dumfries and Galloway is seeking a compassionate Healthcare Support Worker for the Acute Stroke, Rehabilitation, and Frailty Ward at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. You will play a key role in supporting patients’ personal care, aiding rehabilitation, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic care.

The role emphasises patient dignity, independence, and safe care transitions from hospital to home or other settings.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a healthcare or support role is essential.
• Caring and empathetic with good communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn and undertake further training (e.g., Care Certificate).
• Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and shift work.

Responsibilities

• Supporting patients with personal care including washing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
• Assisting with rehabilitation activities and encouraging independence.
• Monitoring and recording vital signs and reporting changes in patients’ conditions.
• Supporting patients and families with compassion and dignity.
• Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective care.

We are looking for a dedicated Healthcare Support Worker to join our friendly and dynamic multidisciplinary team on our Acute Stroke, Rehabilitation, and Frailty Ward at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI).

About The Ward

Our ward provides care to patients recovering from stroke, acute illness, and those living with frailty. We pride ourselves on delivering person-centred, holistic care that supports patients to regain independence and transition safely from hospital to home or further care settings.

You’ll be part of a team that includes nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and doctors – all working together to provide the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Supporting patients with personal care including washing, dressing, eating, and mobility
• Assisting with rehabilitation activities and encouraging independence
• Monitoring and recording vital signs and reporting changes in patients’ conditions
• Supporting patients and families with compassion and dignity
