Job summary

Scartho Gateway Academy in Grimsby is seeking an experienced teaching assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with complex SEND, adapting activities, resources and communication methods to meet individual needs.

You will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and other staff, participate in CPD, and contribute to an inclusive, trauma-informed learning environment that aims for high standards of achievement.

Job description

Support staff: 1 -1 Teaching Assistant - Scartho Gateway Academy

Scartho Gateway Academy opened in September 2025 and now has 152 pupils and will eventually provide for up to 210 mainstream pupils, from Reception to Year 6.

The Academy also includes an RSP, which will cater for up to 12 children from across North East Lincolnshire who have identified Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

We are looking for an experienced teaching assistant who demonstrates a strong desire to ensure all children are able to develop their skills and confidence, using adaptive, personalised teaching strategies. Initially, the role will be providing dedicated 1:1 support to a child with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring their individual needs are understood and appropriately supported. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, pastoral staff, parents/carers and other professionals involved in the child’s education and care. The role will require the successful candidate to support the child to access learning by adapting activities, resources and methods of communication according to their individual needs and abilities, whilst implementing strategies and recommendations outlined in the child’s EHCP, individual support plan, risk assessments and other relevant documentation. The successful candidate will hold ambitious expectations for all students, including those with additional and special educational needs and disabilities and embed a culture where all can access the curriculum and learn effectively.

Scartho Gateway Academy is working closely with Trauma Informed Schools UK to support the development of our vision, values and curriculum. It is essential that the successful candidate champions our principles of trauma awareness and relational learning, building strong, trusting relationships with our children to create a safe learning environment.
