Job summary

Milk Education are currently working with a supportive primary school in Bury who are seeking a caring 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to a pupil with autism. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support the pupil's academic, social and emotional development, helping them feel confident, included and comfortable within the school environment.

The role requires patience, adaptability and a calm, nurturing approach to build trust and enable the pupil's

Qualifications

  • Have previous experience supporting children with autism or additional needs.
  • Have experience working within a primary school, nursery, SEN setting, care environment or a similar role.
  • Are confident providing personalised one-to-one support.
  • Have a patient, calm and caring approach.
  • Recognise that every child has their own strengths, needs and communication style.
  • Can establish a positive and trusting relationship with a child.
  • Remain calm, consistent and supportive in challenging or unexpected situations.
  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Are comfortable working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals.
  • Are proactive and able to adapt their approach to meet the child's individual needs.
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children's learning, development and wellbeing.
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and child protection, or are willing to complete the relevant training.

Responsibilities

  • Providing dedicated one-to-one support to a primary-aged pupil with autism.
  • Helping the child access lessons, activities and the wider curriculum.
  • Adapting tasks and activities in line with the pupil's individual learning needs.
  • Encouraging confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Offering reassurance and encouragement when the child experiences difficulties.
  • Supporting the development of communication and interaction skills with adults and peers.
  • Encouraging positive relationships within the classroom and wider school community.
  • Supporting transitions between lessons, activities and different areas of the school.
  • Providing support during breaktimes, lunchtimes and other less structured periods of the day.
  • Establishing consistent and predictable routines to help the pupil feel secure.
  • Using appropriate strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement.
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to put individual support strategies into practice.
  • Observing and monitoring the pupil's progress and sharing relevant information with the teaching team.
  • Encouraging participation in classroom activities while developing the pupil's independence.
  • Helping to maintain a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment.
  • Following school policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, SEND and pupil wellbeing.

1:1 Teaching Assistant - Primary School in Bury

Milk Education are currently working with a supportive and welcoming primary school in Bury who are seeking to appoint a caring and committed 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to a pupil with autism.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and understands the importance of providing consistent, patient and individualised support.

You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to support the pupil's academic, social and emotional development, helping them to feel confident, included and comfortable within the school environment.

The successful candidate will be calm, nurturing and adaptable, with the ability to recognise individual needs and develop a positive, trusting relationship with the child.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will provide personalised support throughout the school day. Your responsibilities will include:
